GRANARA TOWER
This small construction is halfway between Fort Tenaglia and Crocetta. The name could derive from Domenico Granara-Gerolamo, who, in the early 1800īs was the owner of the land occupied by the antique Fort Crocetta. The construction of the tower was begun around 1820.
In 1943 it was partially destroyed by artillary fire directed at Fort Tenaglia. Today it is situated on private property, and is covered by dense vegetation, so much so that it is difficult to reach the ruins.
It is formed by a retaining wall with a circular base, which was initially provided with a roof, that closed a rectangular building. It was destined for the watch guards. It is posted on a bastionated embankment in pentagonal form, and in the centre there is a wall with embrasures, which was constructed in 1827, connecting the Tenaglia and the Crocetta
