MONTE BARACCONE BATTERY

Before the last fork to get to Fort Monte Burot, the old military road continues for about two kilometers, until it reaches the Monte Baraccone Battery. The route is in fairly bad condition, but in certain parts in mantains its military road characteristics. Due to the many forks along the route, you can follow the signs for Alta Via dei Monti Liguri, shown here with blue dots.

The fort is located on the plain that gives the mountain its name. It is hard to identify due to the thick woods which surround it.  Cleaning the woods has only begun recently. The current conditions of the edifice, which is completely covered by vegetation, do not permit a precise understanding of the structure. Among the vegetation three artillery emplacements and a  ready locker can be seen. The latter is presented as a short corridor (covered by the signatures of the former sentinals), which finishes in the room. The roofing is made of brick alternated with metal bars. The artillery emplacements, which are barely recognizable, and even then only by an expert eye, no longer have any of their original characteristics. Some sources claim that they could have hosted 6 cannons. Among the vegetation there are scarce traces of the walls.

It is important to note that this fortification can be seen from Fort Settepani, of the Melogno Defence; this surely allowed communication by telegraph between the two defences.
