FORT OF ALTARE

 

 

The Fort di Altare complex is made up of Forts Cascinotto and Tecci (which can no longer be accessed). In the external area near the latter, we can find the remains of a reinforcement battery, which can be accessed through the original gate. These two Forts are surrounded by a long scarp tunnel with embrasures and staircases. These are only interrupted by the two Tagliate: the State Road coming from Savona passes through these by means of a  tunnel. Originally, the road was interrupted by the two drawbridges (of which only the pulleys remain).

Up until a short while ago the complex was still a Military Zone. Now, the structures have been partly abandoned, and are nonetheless closed to the public.
