MELOGNO DEFENCE

 

 

The Melogno Defence can be reached taking the Finale Ligure exit from the highway. Taking State Road No. 490, we can reach Melogno Pass in about 20 minutes. This is one of the most elevated passes of the Ligurian Alps (1028 m.above sea level). The strategic locationof the Pass brought to the construction, between 1883 and 1895, of three fortified edifices. Their purpose was to stop a hypothetical attacking army (disembarking in the Ligurian Riviera) from going along the Ligurian Alps and Appenines and reaching Piemonte. Melogno is defended by Forts Tortagna, Settepani, Centrale and by the small Bric Merizzo Battery.
