BRIC MERIZZO BATTERY

Leaving Colle del Melogno along the same military road as that for Fort Tortagna, we turn right at the first fork in the road. The route still has the characteristics of the old military roads. It goes uphill and circles Bric Merizzo. A bar does not allow vehicles to pass. Walking for about 300 metres brings us to the summit of the hill, which is completely covered by thick bushes. The buildings of the Bric Merizzo Battery are, now, well-hidden by the tall trees and vegetation. Along the road, a containing wall signals the edifice. We reach an open space. On the left, we can see the remains of a long one-floor building, which most likely hosted troops and some officials. This building has been completely invaded by the plants, but still has traces of its original use. Many of the hinged doors are made out of brick. On the right we pass a gate and a slope, which side the containing wall, until we can see the old artillery emplacements. These have recently been camoflagued, but we can still recognize the ready locker and the two emplacements for a total of 4 cannons. Hidden among the grass, we can see the walls of the barbette posts.
